Over the weekend while many social media flies were off-the-grid a few of the heavy influencer’s were, well, influencing those who were watching. One event included twitter blasts from Kevin Rose (@kevinrose) and Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee), while the other was from the now ever so blameable Mr. Scoble (@scobleizer).
For Kevin and Gary, what started out as seemingly innocent social media exploration of Gary showing Kevin Seesmic and helping him set up his profile.
Announcing that Kevin just created a Seesmic profile with the following video:
For Robert Scoble, it was a purposeful influencial twitter post to shift eyeballs to a TwitLive podcast.
These two twitter heavy weights quickly generated traffic via their influencial posts at their respective intended targets. For Kevin and Gary this turned into a flurry of new user registrations and video comments for the (very alpha) Seesmic site. For Scoble this translated to +1500 podcast viewers, including myself, as his reply tweet shows.
Since Seesmic’s service is relatively new this example of influencial traffic, as well as the groundswell, is particularly interesting to me for the following reasons:
- Heavyweight user’s setting the Groundswell bar
- Heavyweight user’s driving service traffic
Could heavyweight users become their own marketing presence? I think so! More importantly, are they already being used in this manner? Or, is this really just their ‘personal’ usage of the product/service as it may initially seem?
Kevin & Gary’s final post of the weekend really makes you wonder, Are they being used to help launch a new service and draw traffic or is this for their own personal use and just for fun?

Gary VaynerchukNice post, just for me and Kev I can say we were in Vegas the Tea conference was done and we were getting pounded at the tables so this was a fun playing around, it’s not like we were doing it for POWNCE

SIGEPJEDIThanks for dropping the comment Gary! By no means do I doubt you guys were dorking out, as I would have been right there doing the same thing (recalls Kevin falling from the sky).
Overall though its an interesting concept, online heavy weights influencing the eyeballs watching. Much like Britney Spears showing up everywhere with Starbucks we have Kevin and Gary showing up with stickers
