As soon as .me domains went on sale today I jumped on GoDaddy, and though the site was sluggish I was able to secure the following domains successfully:
HIRE.ME
AWESO.ME
GOOGLE.ME
SUPERSIZE.ME
Excited at my speed to purchase in securing these .me domains, I posted my winnings to Twitter. Within just a few minutes I received a twitter reply stating another had also successfully registered AWESO.ME much to my dismay. A quick search on Summize showed there were now a total of 3 People who had successfully registered AWESO.ME - something wasnt/isnt right here
Shortly there after, GoDaddy sent me another email (post confirmation purchase receipt) stating the following:
The following domain name has failed to be registered: AWESO.ME Error: AWESO.ME: cannot register - already registered We will evaluate this error and retry the registration if appropriate. If we are unable to successfully register the domain name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please allow one business day for the refund to be processed. Please contact GoDaddy.com, Inc. if you need any further assistance: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/support.asp?prog_id=GoDaddy&isc=gdbb14 Sincerely, GoDaddy.com, Inc.
Twitter is currently a fire storm of confused GoDaddy customers furious as to what has just transpired. - I now see an additional 2 tweeple who think they’ve registered AWESO.ME
Has GoDaddy just fucked.me, or was their plan just to tease.me and disappoint.me
Later in the day I decided to call GoDaddy and record the conversation. You can listen to the phone call here!
It seems to be spreading on the interwebs. You can Digg the Phone call here

The GoDaddy Presidents Office just called .me | Social Media Blend(er) added these pithy words on Jul 18 08 at 1:46 pmMike D.I actually reserved aweso.me in the “Landrush” period (I think that’s what it’s called) a month ago, so I can tell you that anyone who has been told they own this domain does not have it. The domain has been placed into an auction whereby the only people who can bid on it already put up their $99 a month ago.
I’m probably even more mad than you because I reserved 17 .me domains a month ago and my card was charged $1700 for that. I don’t mind the charge, but I was under the impression I would be told whether I got the domains within days and not weeks. It’s now been a full billing cycle on my credit card so I’ve physically paid the $1700 to GoDaddy at this point. And how many domains do I actually own? None. Good times.
dizastorSeveral of us registered aweso.me during the “dot me” landrush period between may and june… I was notified yesterday that the official auction is August 5th.
We basically all paid 100 for a spot in an auction to buy aweso.me…
lamiHi. I had the same problem. I’ve “registered” 5 nice domain names and after money transfer I got an e-mail that all these domains are already registered.
I have a bad feeling about this whole stuff. When I checked domain availability in the begining of the registration GoDaddy said it was available. After I had got these damn e-mails I spotted on auctions.domain.me, that some of these names are possible to buy on the auction.
I find it very disturbing and I have a few questions to ask.
1) In the “open” stage auction rules don’t apply, do they? (the first the better, right?)2) Is it possible that GoDaddy could show that domain is available even it was bought in earlier stage and now it is available only by auctioning?
3) Maybe godaddy made this auction after many requests on the same domain?
Please answer…
MDude, the domain AWESO.ME is now available on https://auctions.domain.me - for $75. Godaddy runs the auctions.domain.me site so it seems like a scam of some kind.
Sam@M, Domains reserved during the land rush are put up to auction if there were more than 1 reservation.
