The power of the interweb just does not cease to amaze me as today I recieved a phone call from The President of GoDaddy’s office.
Why you ask? To help clarify the misunderstandings surrounding Yesterdays .me domain extension sale. Word has traveled fast regarding my postings on my AWESO.ME domain, both My Blog Post & the Phone Call to GoDaddy customer service.
The conversation lasted a good 30-40 minutes as he helped dis spell rumors and clarify both what was going on and what had actually happened.
I also recorded most of the conversation with the GoDaddy President Office, which you can listen to over here
The call recording got cut off at the 10min mark and since I was pretty much recording this on the down-low I figured I would just leave it at that
To summarize the current state of .me buyers:
- Yesterday was open sale for the .me domain name registration
- There was a pre-existing “Land-Rush” which took place a few months ago which “locked” domains.
- You can perform a whois lookup on .me Domains - If information is available its been registered and you’ll see to who. If you get “The Registry Whois service did not respond. Please try again later.” then its in the “Land-Rush” auction.
- Those who tried to buy yesterday are NOT eligible for the auction.
- If you recieved the Failure Email you WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED. Not issued a Credit. (Some refunds may have already gone through)
- You can view Auction status with the Official .me Registrar - But, cant take part
To learn more online regarding this crazy .me Auction process, you can check out Domains.me which has an informative FAQ -> https://domain.me/index.php?page=15.
Also, GoDaddy was NOT the only US .ME authorized registrar as many have been reporting and I had believed. You can check out a complete list of these authorized registrars here.
GoDaddy also appears to be calling their customers individually. After getting of the phone with the Presidents Office I received a general explanatory phone call from what seemed more of a customer service rep.
Regardless of the hype and confusion yesterday GoDaddy certainly is on the ball, paying attention to the community, and giving customers the time of day!
