Official Twitter API Documentation, Hacked!

Tonight I dropped by the Official Twitter API Documentation, which they make use of Google Groups for their documentation, and much to my surprise the link went right to a porn site!

WARNING: Clicking the ‘Rate Limiting’ Link on the Twitter API doc will lead to NSFW Porn images, and an endless loop of pop ups!! But, incase you want to see this for yourself:

Twitter.com directly links to the API docs from the following page: http://twitter.com/help/api
By clicking ‘The official Twitter API documentation’ on this page.

Every link on the API Google Groups doc page links to: http://handjob-sexackartsylvianelakehiawatha.googlegroups.com/…….

How has this NOT been spotted???? AND, corrected!

Im not sure how their Google Docs page would get hacked, or if their may be a security issue on Google’s end, but this certainly raises concern for the account used for the Twitter API documentation.

How to type graphical characters on your iPhone

You’ve likely seen people post twitter messages with special symbol characters like music notes (♪ ♫) indicating their tweet is referencing lyrics from a song. If you are already familiar with these symbols then you know these are actually HTML character codes which were introduced as of HTML 4. These symbols were likely entered via the web, but if you have an iPhone you can now send these from your phone!

The iPhones international keyboard gives you access to the Japanese Kana keyboard, enabling lots of symbols that are inaccessible from the standard Western keyboard. These symbols include mathematical symbols, circled/uncircled numbers, weather symbols, card suits, arrows, and more!

To better illustrate how to access these here is a quick little video, enjoy:

Changing the iTunes Account on your iPhone

I now have Multiple users in my home with iPhone’s, making standard iTunes syncs suddenly not an easy task! The problem really comes into play with the App Store and iTunes account credentials being stored on the iPhone itself.

These credentials, which require password entry, make it possible for you to download iTunes Applications on your iPhone while not connected to your computer. This account information is entered via the iTunes application, but is not accessible on your iPhone itself. Meaning, once you’ve sync’d and account there is no way to modify the information on the device until you re-sync correctly.

If multiple users are utilizing the same PC or MAC for iPhone, or iPod Touch, it is very easy to store another users iTunes account on your iPhone. This is because the iTunes account which is logged into iTunes at the time of sync is the one in which you iPhone or touch device gets. Seems rather odd right? My Wife and I recently encountered this, initially not sure why each others phones were prompting for the others iTunes accounts.

A quick search on Apple’s Support site turned up the following, confirming the situation:

Products Affected
iTunes, iPhone, iTunes Store, iPod touch, iPhone 3G
Summary
When you sync your iPhone or iPod touch with your computer, the account last used to access the iTunes Store from the computer is synced to the mobile device for use in the iTunes Store from the device as well. This same account is used for the App Store as well. This account will be used on the device for both stores until you sign in from your computer to the iTunes Store with a different account, and then resync your mobile device with the computer.

view the support entry here

The solution is really simple, just be sure on sync that you are signed into iTunes via your account. But why would iTunes let you sync, backup, and perform various other functions with an iPhone attached to someone elses iTunes account? This just seems wrong to begin with. Apple, thus iTunes, knows your device does not belong to the other iTunes account. Right?

iTunes Killer streams right to My Car AUX jack!

I can finally stream music from the interwebz through my car via the iPhone 3G & Pandora. Here is a quick and dirty video showing it live. - sorry for the dark video below.

If you havent heard the buzz on the new iPhone 3G and the available Applications which you can download through Apple’s iTunes App store, here is one to knock your socks of. Pandora.

With Pandora you can explore this vast trove of music to your heart’s content. Just drop the name of one of your favorite songs or artists into Pandora and let the Genome Project go. It will quickly scan its entire world of analyzed music, almost a century of popular recordings - new and old, well known and completely obscure - to find songs with interesting musical similarities to your choice. Then sit back and enjoy as it creates a listening experience full of current and soon-to-be favorite songs for you.

Now, bundle that up and insert this into your Car! Thats right, your car. Driving down the road at 70MPH (check your local speed limits) with access to a unlimited supply of your favorite music, and beyond via the internet!

Its something that I have certainly tried to accomplish for years now. Trying to access this very same functionality via a data cable plugged into a laptop plugged into a cell phone. Year after Year = FAIL

Some have labeled Pandora as the iTunes KILLER! After connecting this to my cars AUX jack, I must admit that Im not using CD’s or iPod for my music needs in the car.

The GoDaddy Presidents Office just called .me

go daddy
The power of the interweb just does not cease to amaze me as today I recieved a phone call from The President of GoDaddy’s office.

Why you ask? To help clarify the misunderstandings surrounding Yesterdays .me domain extension sale. Word has traveled fast regarding my postings on my AWESO.ME domain, both My Blog Post & the Phone Call to GoDaddy customer service.

The conversation lasted a good 30-40 minutes as he helped dis spell rumors and clarify both what was going on and what had actually happened.

I also recorded most of the conversation with the GoDaddy President Office, which you can listen to over here

The call recording got cut off at the 10min mark and since I was pretty much recording this on the down-low I figured I would just leave it at that ;-)

To summarize the current state of .me buyers:

  1. Yesterday was open sale for the .me domain name registration
  2. There was a pre-existing “Land-Rush” which took place a few months ago which “locked” domains.
  3. You can perform a whois lookup on .me Domains - If information is available its been registered and you’ll see to who. If you get “The Registry Whois service did not respond. Please try again later.” then its in the “Land-Rush” auction.
  4. Those who tried to buy yesterday are NOT eligible for the auction.
  5. If you recieved the Failure Email you WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED. Not issued a Credit. (Some refunds may have already gone through)
  6. You can view Auction status with the Official .me Registrar - But, cant take part

To learn more online regarding this crazy .me Auction process, you can check out Domains.me which has an informative FAQ -> https://domain.me/index.php?page=15.

Also, GoDaddy was NOT the only US .ME authorized registrar as many have been reporting and I had believed. You can check out a complete list of these authorized registrars here.

GoDaddy also appears to be calling their customers individually. After getting of the phone with the Presidents Office I received a general explanatory phone call from what seemed more of a customer service rep.

Regardless of the hype and confusion yesterday GoDaddy certainly is on the ball, paying attention to the community, and giving customers the time of day!
